Trees, Water & People

Trees, Water & People (TWP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1998 by Stuart Conway and Richard Fox. TWP is staffed by a group of dedicated conservationists who feel strongly about helping communities to better manage the natural resources upon which their long-term well-being depends. Our work is guided by two core beliefs:  Natural resources are best protected when local people play an active role in their care and management; and Preserving local ecosystems is essential for the ongoing social, economic, and environmental health of communities everywhere.

Trees, Water & People’s mission is to improve people’s lives by helping communities protect, conserve, and manage the natural resources upon which their long-term well-being depends.

bhatti2Bhatti Mines School in New Delhi, India-
The Bhatti Mines community faces extreme hardship of poverty and unemployment. This is one of the most impoverished areas of New Delhi, India. The 30,000 residents of the villages live in slum-like conditions lacking adequate shelter, running water, electricity, health services, schools and economic opportunity. Bhatti Mines School in New Delhi, offers a safe place for the children to learn and grow. This is also an alternative to child labor and a path out of extreme poverty, bringing hope for the future and the freedom to live, love and thrive. Santosh and Archana Singh created the school and began teaching the children of Bhatti Mines 12 years ago.

I Love Yoga Foundation will be raising money to help support the Bhatti Mines School with the support of The Zen Cruise and several other yoga studios, foundations and individuals, including Chelsa Hover of Amala Foundation of Austin, TX.

Yoga Gangsters – Yoga Gangsters is a Miami-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to empower youth by addressing the symptoms of trauma and poverty such as limited education, addiction, violence, incarceration, teen pregnancy, HIV, physical/mental disabilities and more using the science and practice of yoga.

Yoga Gangsters serves South Florida’s inner city areas by providing a network of free classes, teaching the science and practice of yoga to underprivileged and at-risk youth in schools, hospitals, jails, youth centres and through other non-profit organizations. Yoga Gangsters also assists youth with career training and job placement by providing selected applicants with full scholarships to the Urban Guru Program, a 200-hour yoga teacher certification, so they may return to their communities as strong, inspirational leaders.

As of June 2012, Yoga Gangsters has trained over 165 volunteer yoga teachers who have led weekly yoga programs in over 25 inner city schools, hospitals, jails, youth centres and other non-profit organizations. Since Yoga Gangster’s annual Yoga Aid fundraiser in October 2011, the organization has brought the gift of yoga to over 1,200 children, teens and young adults.

Yoga Gangsters has also raised considerable funds to support global projects that we believe in such as the Africa Yoga Project, Khushi Charitable Society (India), and organizations in Haiti, Uganda, and other impoverished communities. Our primary partner is Off The Mat Into The World, and we are committed to their goals and mission.
